U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States achieved significant military success against Iran in just five months, comparing the campaign with the lengthy wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Korea. CBS News reported the remarks.

Speaking at the start of a Cabinet meeting on Friday (July 31), Trump said, “We’ve done an incredible job. We’ve only been there for five months. We were in Vietnam for 20 years, Afghanistan for many years, and Korea for a long time. But in just five months, we have essentially destroyed Iran’s military capability.”

He added that Iran still retains some military capabilities but claimed those would soon be eliminated.

Although Trump began his remarks by discussing the U.S. economy and immigration, he repeatedly returned to the subject of Iran during the meeting. He also dismissed public dissatisfaction in the United States over the ongoing conflict.

“Iran is in very bad shape,” Trump said. “If you’ve read anything different, it’s wrong. They are in a terrible position. They were very dishonest, and negotiating with them was disrespectful. But it doesn’t matter now. They are in a very weak position.”
