All crew members aboard a U.S. Army Apache helicopter that crashed near the Strait of Hormuz have been rescued safely, U.S. President Donald Trump said.
Speaking to reporters at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Tuesday, Trump said none of the helicopter’s crew members were injured in the incident. He added that further details would be released later.
Earlier, The New York Times reported that the Apache helicopter crashed on Monday near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. U.S. officials said investigators are examining whether the incident was caused by a mechanical failure, adverse conditions, or other factors.
The U.S. military has launched an investigation into the crash. Authorities have declined to comment further on the cause until the investigation is completed.
