Gold prices fell on Tuesday as rising oil prices fueled concerns over inflation, while investors awaited next week’s monetary policy meeting of the US Federal Reserve for signals on the future direction of interest rates.
According to Reuters, spot gold fell 0.5 percent to $4,120.49 per ounce as of 9:09 a.m. GMT on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, US gold futures for December delivery also declined 0.5 percent to $4,139.10 per ounce.
Market analysts say rising oil prices could increase transportation and production costs, adding to inflationary pressures. This has raised concerns that central banks may adopt a cautious approach to cutting interest rates.
Gold, which does not pay interest, generally becomes less attractive when interest rates remain high, as investors may prefer assets that offer yields. As a result, investors are closely monitoring the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy meeting for clues about its interest rate outlook and the potential impact on gold prices.
