Inflation in Bangladesh decreased to 9.92% in September, down from 10.49% in August, according to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics today (8 October).
Food inflation saw a notable drop from 11.35% in August to 10.4% in September, while non-food inflation edged down from 9.74% to 9.5%.
In August, inflation had dropped from a record high of 11.66% in July to 10.49%, marking a significant decline of 1.17 percentage points, the largest since 2013.
Despite the decrease, inflation remained above 10% in August. The 1.17 percentage point drop was particularly notable, as it surpassed the second-largest decline of 0.92 percentage points recorded in November 2020, when inflation fell from 6.44% in October to 5.52% in November.
In July, inflation surged to 11.66%, the highest on record, partly due to the disruption caused by the quota reform movement, which led to blockades and curfews.
In comparison, inflation in September 2023 stood at 9.63%, with food inflation at 12.37% and non-food inflation at 7.82%.
