The United States and Iran have engaged in a heated exchange at the United Nations over Iran’s election as a vice-chair of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference.
Washington criticized the move, describing Iran’s appointment as a “mockery” of the NPT. The US alleged that Iran has failed to meet its nuclear obligations and is not fully cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to a report by Middle East Eye.
Tehran, however, rejected the allegations.
Iran stated that the United States lacks the moral authority or credibility to comment on compliance with nuclear agreements. It argued that the US remains the only country in history to have used nuclear weapons in war.
