US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran is facing a difficult situation and has requested Washington to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible, according to Anadolu Agency.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday (April 28), Trump said Iran had informed the United States that it was “facing destruction.” He added that Tehran wants the strait reopened urgently so it can manage its leadership and internal situation. Trump also expressed confidence that Iran would be able to handle the crisis.

However, Trump did not provide further details to support his claim, and there has been no immediate confirmation from Iranian officials.

The remarks come at a time when reports suggest Trump is dissatisfied with a proposal from Tehran. The proposal reportedly includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and taking steps toward easing tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran.

According to a report by The New York Times, Trump was briefed on the plan during a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Monday.

The report also said the proposal calls on the United States to lift restrictions on Iranian ports, as well as to extend or make a ceasefire permanent.

Iran has reportedly proposed that nuclear negotiations could begin only after maritime sanctions are lifted. However, the proposal does not clearly address Iran’s nuclear program, which remains a key concern for Washington.
