North Korea has successfully tested advanced artillery and missile systems, with leader Kim Jong Un overseeing the exercise and reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the country’s military capabilities. The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported the development, according to Anadolu Agency.

The test, conducted on Thursday, was part of North Korea’s five-year national defense modernization program. It evaluated an upgraded 240 mm 24-tube multiple rocket launcher, a tactical ballistic missile equipped with a special mission warhead, and 155 mm self-propelled howitzer ammunition.

According to KCNA, the upgraded rocket launcher now has a range of 90 kilometers and is equipped with an automated fire-control system and enhanced precision-guidance technology. The agency also said the new tactical ballistic missile’s special warhead is capable of striking strategic targets such as air bases, seaports and power plants. The effective range of the new 155 mm howitzer ammunition was reported to be 65 kilometers.

Kim Jong Un said the test demonstrated the technological progress achieved under the government’s military modernization policy. He added that strengthening the country’s defense capabilities is essential to safeguarding national sovereignty and security amid the current international environment.

Kim also said Pyongyang is expanding not only its defensive capabilities but also more powerful offensive capabilities intended to deter potential adversaries. He claimed North Korea’s long-range strike capability has advanced significantly within a short period.
