U.S. Military Casualties in Iran War Rise to 642 as Pentagon Revises Figures

The U.S. Department of Defense has revised the number of American military casualties in the ongoing war with Iran, adding more than 140 previously unreported injured service members. According to the updated figures, the total number of U.S. casualties has risen to 642.

The Pentagon’s latest assessment shows that 18 U.S. service members have been killed and 624 injured since the launch of Operation Epic Fury on February 28.

The revision comes after the Pentagon’s earlier casualty reports significantly undercounted the number of wounded personnel, prompting questions about the transparency of its reporting. Members of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee subsequently demanded an explanation from the Secretary of Defense.

The Pentagon said the discrepancy was caused by a temporary technical issue on its website. The updated casualty list also includes the names of four U.S. service members killed in Iranian attacks in Jordan and northern Iraq.

Meanwhile, political debate continues over the Trump administration’s legal justification for the military campaign. Critics argue that the administration is attempting to bypass constitutional limits on the use of military force by conducting the operation without congressional authorization.
