German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that the United States is being ‘humiliated’ by Iran’s top leadership. He added that it remains unclear how Washington plans to exit the ongoing tensions or conflict with Tehran.

According to a report by Al Jazeera published on Monday (April 27), Merz made the remarks while addressing students at an event in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

He said Iran’s leadership has placed an entire nation in a position of humiliation and questioned what strategy the United States might adopt to withdraw from the situation.

Merz also noted that Iran is conducting negotiations with notable skill and has demonstrated greater strength than many had anticipated.

Meanwhile, following the collapse of ceasefire talks, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Russia after visiting Pakistan and Oman. He claimed that excessive demands from the United States led to the failure of peace talks in Islamabad.

In an interview shared on his Telegram channel, Araghchi said he would discuss the Middle East conflict with Russian allies during his visit to St. Petersburg.

Speaking to reporters in Russia, he added that discussions had also taken place regarding the conditions under which negotiations could continue.
