The number of US service members killed in incidents related to military operations against Iran has risen to 21, while 865 others have been injured. The figures are based on updated data released by the US Department of Defense, commonly known as the Pentagon.
According to the Pentagon’s Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), the casualties were recorded through October 9. Compared with the previous figures, the number of deaths has increased by two, while the number of injured personnel has risen by four.
The Pentagon’s figures include service members killed during combat as well as those who died in other incidents linked to operations against Iran.
However, questions have been raised about the actual number of US military casualties. US media outlet The Intercept reported that some casualties occurring after July 7 were recorded separately from those officially attributed to Operation Epic Fury. This has complicated efforts to determine the total number of deaths and injuries linked to the conflict.
Earlier, in figures released in early September, the Pentagon reported that 18 US service members had been killed and 820 injured in incidents related to the conflict with Iran. The total number of military casualties at that time stood at 838.
