Iran has claimed that it shot down a U.S. drone in the skies over Bushehr Province in the country’s south. The information was reported by Iranian state-linked media outlet Tasnim News Agency, citing the country’s air defense forces.
According to the report, the drone was detected and brought down using a surface-to-air missile system.
Jam County Governor Masoud Tangestani confirmed the incident and said the situation in the area remains normal following the event.
Earlier, Iran’s state broadcaster reported hearing explosions in the Bushehr area during an air defense operation.
However, Tehran did not provide details about the type of drone, where it was being operated from, or whether any wreckage had been recovered.
Meanwhile, tensions have also risen near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian forces claimed they fired warning shots at four vessels accused of moving through the area without authorization.
No further information has been released regarding the identity of the vessels or the situation afterward.
