Police are investigating after an unidentified individual threw a suspected explosive device into a Bangladeshi restaurant in the Ozone Park neighborhood of Queens early Monday, causing panic among customers but leaving no one injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. at Boithak Khana, a popular Bangladeshi restaurant on Liberty Avenue. According to the restaurant’s management, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a face covering entered the restaurant, threw the device toward the customer seating area, and fled the scene immediately.

The explosion startled customers and employees, prompting one of the patrons to call 911. Officers from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) responded within minutes, secured the area, and launched an investigation.

Police cordoned off the restaurant, collected evidence, and reviewed surveillance footage as investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. No injuries were reported.

Restaurant owner Nur Islam Babu said neither he nor his staff recognized the suspect. After police completed their initial investigation and removed the security perimeter, the restaurant resumed normal operations at around 2:00 p.m. the same day.

The incident has raised concerns within the Bangladeshi community in Ozone Park, where the restaurant is well known. Community leaders and representatives of the Cityline Ozone Park Civilian Patrol visited the restaurant to express their support for the owner and employees.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Cityline Ozone Park Civilian Patrol said the suspect ignited an object before it exploded inside the restaurant. The organization urged anyone with information, photographs, or video related to the incident to contact the NYPD to assist with the investigation.

Police have not announced any arrests or identified a motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
