Iran sets three conditions for resuming talks with US

Iran has set three conditions for resuming talks with the United States. Mohsen Rezaei, a senior Iranian security official, said the conditions had been conveyed to Washington through Qatari mediators.

Iran says the war must be fully halted before any talks can resume. It has also demanded the release of Iranian funds frozen abroad and the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Rezaei said accepting the conditions could reopen the way for negotiations with the United States. He stressed, however, that any ceasefire must apply across all fronts.

Meanwhile, a Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted a ballistic missile targeting the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The coalition said the missile was destroyed in the air before reaching its target.

The coalition also said several other attempted attacks had been intercepted in the cities of Wadi, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu. It blamed Yemen’s Houthi movement for the attacks.

Tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis have been rising amid the wider conflict in the Middle East. The United States has warned that the situation could develop into a broader conflict.

Washington has also advised US citizens in nine Middle Eastern countries to exercise caution. US authorities said the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis could spread rapidly.
