Amid ongoing tensions involving the United States and Israel, Azerbaijan has sent 200 tons of humanitarian aid to Iran. The country’s state news agency Azertag reported the development on Saturday (April 4).

According to the report, the assistance includes 190 tons of food supplies, 7 tons of medicine, and 3 tons of medical equipment.

The aid was dispatched under the directive of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. Officials said the support was provided to help meet the urgent needs of the Iranian people as a neighboring and friendly nation.

Earlier in March, Azerbaijan also sent food and medical supplies to Iran. That shipment included 10 tons of flour, 6 tons of rice, 2.4 tons of sugar, more than 4 tons of water, 600 kilograms of tea, and nearly 2 tons of medicine.

Regional tensions have escalated since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran. According to Iranian sources, more than 1,340 people have been killed in the attacks so far.

In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting not only Israel but also U.S. military bases in Jordan, Iraq, and other Gulf countries.
