Two flights operated by Finnish airline Finnair were targeted by bomb threats on Thursday (November 5). However, subsequent security checks found no suspicious items on either aircraft, Anadolu Agency reported, citing Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

One of the flights, Finnair flight AY1761 from Helsinki to Rome, landed in the Italian capital at 9:27 am local time as scheduled. Italian fighter jets escorted the aircraft to Rome.

Finnair Communications Manager Stina Tuunanen said local authorities approached the aircraft after landing and carried out security checks. The pilot informed passengers about the bomb threat. However, no suspicious items were found on board.

A second bomb threat was reported involving a Helsinki-Vienna flight operated by Jettime on behalf of Finnair. This threat also proved to be unfounded, Tuunanen said.

She said the airline followed its established security procedures in response to both incidents and worked closely with the relevant authorities.

Tuunanen added that several similar incidents had been reported over the past week, with bomb threats targeting multiple airlines and airports.
