Serious allegations of child abuse have emerged from a daycare centre in Bengaluru, India, where children aged between two and three years were allegedly subjected to inhumane treatment. Police have registered a case against five female caregivers, according to NDTV.

Authorities said the children were allegedly placed inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine to stop them from crying. They were also reportedly sprayed in the face with water from a toilet jet spray and, in some cases, locked inside a bathroom as punishment.

Police launched an investigation after videos containing the alleged abuse circulated widely on social media. The matter has also been referred to the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights for further action.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among parents and renewed concerns over safety standards and oversight at daycare centres operating within corporate campuses.

In a statement, the company operating the daycare said the health, safety and well-being of its employees and their families remain its highest priority. It added that it is fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. As a precautionary measure, the daycare facility at its Bengaluru campus has been temporarily closed.
