China has described the war initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran as “illegal,” signaling strong opposition from Beijing.
The remarks were made by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting in Beijing with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.
During the meeting, Wang Yi stated that China is ready to continue efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East. He stressed that a “comprehensive ceasefire is essential” at this moment, warning that the situation has reached a “critical turning point.” He also called for direct talks among the concerned parties to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, Araghchi thanked China for its firm stance, saying that Beijing’s condemnation of the actions by the United States and Israel demonstrates that it is a “close friend” of Iran.
He described the war against Iran as a clear act of aggression and a serious violation of international law.
Araghchi further stated that Tehran will make every effort to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests through negotiations. However, he emphasized that Iran would only accept a “just and comprehensive agreement.”
