IRGC Claims Attack on Two U.S.-Protected Oil Tankers in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for attacking two oil tankers that were attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. military air protection, according to The Times of Israel.

In a statement issued on Friday (July 31), the IRGC said it targeted the two tankers for allegedly violating navigation regulations, leaving both vessels unable to continue their voyage.

The IRGC also claimed that following the attack, four other oil tankers immediately changed course and returned to their previous positions.

However, the force did not identify the affected vessels or provide details on the extent of the damage or any casualties. The claims have not been independently verified by the United States or any other independent sources.

The IRGC warned that Iran would respond to any intervention, orders, or directives issued by the U.S. military to vessels operating in the region.

It also stressed that ships wishing to transit the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate with the IRGC Navy before crossing the strategic waterway.
