Three people were killed and 36 others injured in separate attacks on Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, amid heightened tensions with Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed the attacks on Wednesday, October 7.

According to GACA, the attacks took place at the two airports at separate times on Tuesday and Wednesday. Two foreign nationals from Morocco and Algeria were killed in the attack on Abha International Airport. Twenty-eight people were injured, including two Saudi citizens as well as Bangladeshi and Filipino nationals. Some of the injured were reported to be in serious condition.

Meanwhile, a Sudanese national was killed in the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Eight others were injured, including five Saudi citizens, two Egyptians and one Pakistani national.

Saudi authorities said the attacks caused damage to infrastructure and other assets at both airports. The injured were immediately taken to hospitals for treatment.

Authorities are assessing the situation and taking necessary measures in coordination with security agencies to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attacks on both airports. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said drones were used to target King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, while ballistic missiles and drones were used in the attack on Abha International Airport.

The attacks come amid continuing tensions between the Houthis in Yemen and the Saudi-led coalition.
