U.S. President Donald Trump sparked laughter among world leaders at the G7 Summit after jokingly declaring, “I’m the boss,” upon entering a meeting on Wednesday, according to Reuters.
The summit in France brought together leaders from the United States, France, Canada, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Representatives of several international organizations also attended various sessions of the gathering.
Trump made the remark before a meeting involving G7 leaders and officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). His comment prompted laughter from those present.
Earlier in the day, Trump described his G7 visit as a “great success” in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
In the post, he said the trip had been highly successful, adding that the issues drawing the most attention were ensuring that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon and reopening the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible.
Alongside the G7 agenda, developments in the Middle East, particularly Iran’s nuclear program and the security of the Strait of Hormuz, remained key topics of international discussion. Against that backdrop, Trump’s “I’m the boss” quip provided a light-hearted moment amid the summit’s formal proceedings.
