Iran has launched a large-scale nationwide operation against alleged espionage activities, arresting more than a hundred individuals accused of links with foreign entities.
According to a report published by Al Jazeera on Saturday (April 18), the arrests were made as part of a security operation conducted across the country.
Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detained more than 120 suspects in connection with the operation. The detainees are accused of having ties with the United States, the United Kingdom, and Israel.
Authorities also alleged that some of those arrested were involved in facilitating hostile military activities against Iran and providing sensitive information.
The IRGC stated that seven suspects were arrested in East Azerbaijan province on charges of transmitting the locations of sensitive sites to foreign adversaries.
In addition, 69 people were detained in Mazandaran province, while another 51 were arrested in Kerman province. Officials claim they were linked to three separate “espionage networks.”
However, Al Jazeera noted that these claims could not be independently verified.
