Iran has announced the funeral arrangements for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to state media.
Ceremonies will begin in Tehran on July 4 and continue for three days, followed by a religious observance in the holy city of Qom on July 7. Khamenei will then be laid to rest in his birthplace, Mashhad, on July 9.
According to reports, the burial had initially been planned for March but was postponed due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Khamenei, who was 86, was reportedly killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike in February. He had served as Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989, succeeding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and playing a central role in shaping the country’s political and military establishment after the Islamic Revolution.
Following his death, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei assumed the position of Supreme Leader.
