Iran has imposed a temporary ban on the export of certain industrial products, including steel slabs and sheets, until May 30.

The information was reported on Monday (April 27) by TRT World.

In a directive, Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization stated that pressure on the country’s steel industry has increased following joint strikes by the United States and Israel. As a result, exports of steel slabs and sheets will remain suspended until May 30.

Earlier, an official from Iran’s steel producers’ association said that emergency plans were being considered to import steel slabs and hot-rolled sheets. He also urged industrial units to carefully manage raw material needs for the next two months.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has called an emergency meeting over the Iran conflict. The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and is scheduled for Tuesday (April 28), according to a report by Iran International.

The report said the UK prime minister will lead a COBRA emergency committee meeting to address the impact of the Iran conflict. He told trade union members that he would chair the meeting to determine steps needed to support working people during the crisis. Representatives from the Bank of England are also expected to attend.

On the other hand, after visiting Pakistan and Oman, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Russia, where he criticised the United States. Speaking to local journalists, he said excessive demands from Washington led to the failure of peace talks in Islamabad.

In a Farsi interview shared on his Telegram channel, Araghchi said he would hold discussions with Russian allies on the ongoing Middle East conflict during his visit to St. Petersburg.

He also said that talks had been held on the conditions under which negotiations could continue. Referring to the Strait of Hormuz, he noted that ensuring safe passage through this vital waterway is a global issue. He added that Iran has urged neighbouring countries, including Oman, to cooperate closely in protecting shared interests in the region.
