Canadian police have arrested a former Air Canada pilot accused of operating commercial flights for years without holding the required airline transport pilot certification.

According to a report published by Al Jazeera on Wednesday, June 10, authorities charged former Air Canada captain Geoffrey Wall following a four-month investigation.

Police allege that the 59-year-old pilot used falsified credentials to fly more than 900 domestic and international flights between 2009 and 2025. Investigators say Wall provided false information about his qualifications to both Air Canada and Canada’s civil aviation authorities before retiring from the airline.

Authorities stated that while Wall possessed a valid commercial pilot license, he did not hold an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), which is mandatory for serving as the captain of a commercial passenger aircraft.

Wall faces multiple charges, including one count of fraud, two counts related to the use of forged documents, three counts involving counterfeit trademarks, and one count of conduct endangering the public interest.

In a statement, Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah described the allegations as deeply concerning.

“If proven, this would mean the accused placed the safety of hundreds of thousands of passengers at risk across more than 900 flights,” Duraiappah said.
Air Canada, however, said passenger safety was never compromised and that it is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness.

The airline noted that all of its pilots are required to undergo mandatory training and competency assessments every six months, as well as annual flight evaluations conducted by certified training captains.

Air Canada added that Wall was removed from duty as soon as the issue came to light and that the company voluntarily informed Transport Canada. A subsequent review of other pilots’ licenses found no additional irregularities.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
