Indian Ship Sinks in Red Sea After Attack, All 14 Crew Members Rescued

An Indian ship sank in the Red Sea off Yemen’s western coast after being attacked by an explosives-laden boat. All 14 crew members on board were rescued safely, authorities said.

According to Yemen’s government-backed National Resistance Forces, the vessel, Faize Noore Alia, came under attack about 13 nautical miles south of Al-Hudaydah while sailing in the Red Sea. The ship later sank following the attack, Anadolu Agency reported.

Authorities have not identified those responsible for the attack, and no group has immediately claimed responsibility.

Yemen’s Navy and Coast Guard launched a joint rescue operation and safely evacuated all 14 crew members. The rescued sailors include 13 Indian nationals and one Yemeni citizen. No casualties were reported, and the crew members were taken to a safe location for medical assistance.

While officials described the vessel as an Indian ship, they did not disclose the country under whose flag it was sailing or provide details about its ownership.

The incident comes amid a renewed rise in attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait since last month. On July 20, the Houthi group announced what it described as a “naval blockade” against Saudi Arabia. In response, Saudi Arabia warned that it would respond firmly to any threats targeting its vessels.

The Bab al-Mandab Strait is one of the world’s most strategic maritime routes, linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. Al-Hudaydah, a key Yemeni port city currently under Houthi control, is located near this vital shipping lane.
