108th Birth Anniversary of General M. A. G. Osmani Observed in New York

A discussion and poetry session was held in New York to mark the 108th birth anniversary of General M. A. G. Osmani, the Commander-in-Chief of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

The event was organized by Swadesh Forum New York on Tuesday, September 1, at the Green Touch Center in New York.

The program was chaired by Swadesh Forum New York President, freedom fighter, teacher and poet Abinash Chandra Acharya. Advocate Sufian Ahmad Chowdhury, general secretary of the organization, moderated the event.

Moinul Haque Chowdhury Helal, central general secretary of Global Jalalabad and a social worker, attended the program as the chief guest.

Former banker Nazma Khatun Chameli, Green Touch founder and Executive Director Liaquat Elahi, and senior journalist Lion Hakikul Islam Khokon were present as special guests.

Former National Museum official M. A. Sadek, Monthly Praggyapon Editor and Publisher Uttam Kumar Saha, poet and professor Sudhangshu Mondal, Advocate Badrul M. Chowdhury, freedom fighter Faruk Hossain, Shahjalal Tourist Society President Md. Abdul Wadud, artist Md. Fazle Ali Kachi, former banker A. K. M. Rafiqul Islam, Rafid Yamin Ahnak, Md. Qutub Uddin and Sufian Ahmad Chowdhury took part in the poetry recitation and discussion.

Speakers said Bangladesh is currently in need of leaders with the wisdom, foresight and integrity demonstrated by General M. A. G. Osmani. They highlighted his exceptional leadership and strategic role on the battlefield during the Liberation War, saying that his contribution to the country’s independence will be remembered by the Bengali nation forever.

A special issue of Swadesh Kantha, the publication of Swadesh Forum New York, was also launched to mark General Osmani’s birth anniversary. The special issue was edited by Sufian Ahmad Chowdhury, while the cover artwork was created by artist Momin Uddin Khaled.
