Bangladesh Lawyers’ Association of Michigan Holds General Meeting, Reception for Senior Lawyer

The Bangladesh Lawyers’ Association of Michigan-USA held its general meeting and a reception honoring senior lawyer Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam Shahin on Sunday evening, September 13, at a local restaurant in Michigan.

The first session, chaired by Advocate Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, focused on organizational matters. Advocates Kaiser Hasan Shimon and Shafiul Azam Masum presented the income and expenditure statement of the association’s family dinner held on August 22.

Several members then spoke on various organizational issues, including Advocates Mohabbat Khan, Mohammad Lala, Abdur Rahim, Abdur Rashid Lal Mia, Radhapad Deb Sajal, Nasiruzzaman Nazim, Mohsin Ahmad Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Moinul, Dipak Chowdhury, Haran Kanti Sen, A.T.M. Shamsul Hasan Babor, Bazlur Rahman and Ashok Acharya.

The second session featured a reception for Advocate Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam Shahin during his visit to Michigan. He is a former president of the Sylhet District Bar Association, former public prosecutor at the Sylhet Judge Court and former president of the Sylhet Station Club.

The reception was chaired by Advocate Mohammad Lala and conducted by Advocate Shafiul Azam Masum. At the beginning of the session, senior lawyers welcomed the honored guest with flowers.

A number of lawyers spoke about Shahin’s professional and social contributions, including Advocates Abdur Rahim, Abdur Rashid Lal Mia, Mohabbat Khan, Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, Radhapad Deb Sajal, Nasiruzzaman Nazim, Kaiser Hasan Shimon, Roksana Begum Shahnaz, Koysar Ahmad Chowdhury, Mohsin Ahmad Chowdhury, Nurul Islam Moinul, Moin Uddin Ahmad, Dipak Chowdhury, Haran Kanti Sen, Hossain Ahmad, A.T.M. Shamsul Hasan Babor and Ashok Acharya.

In his response, Advocate E.U. Shahidul Islam Shahin described the establishment of a lawyers’ association in the diaspora as a “landmark initiative.” He highlighted the long-standing tradition of the Sylhet Bar and praised the Michigan-based professional forum for maintaining a non-political character. He also wished all members good health and long lives.

In his presidential remarks, Advocate Mohammad Lala praised Shahin’s involvement in social and professional activities. He said Shahin had worked for the welfare of people from different sections of society and noted his involvement in various social organizations, including the press club and district sports association.

The event concluded with a dinner for the attendees.
