Heavy Russian attacks hit Kyiv and surrounding regions on Saturday, leaving multiple people dead and dozens injured just a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida. Officials reported that the strikes targeted energy infrastructure and residential areas, causing widespread power outages and damage to civilian buildings.

Ukraine stated that over 40 missiles and nearly 500 drones were launched since Friday night, marking one of the most intense assaults this month. Two children were among the injured, and fire crews worked through the morning to extinguish burning rooftops and clear debris.

Zelenskyy warned that the attacks signal Russia’s reluctance to negotiate peace, urging the United States and European allies to take stronger measures. Kyiv is seeking long-term U.S. security guarantees, with discussions reportedly including a potential 15-year pact. Meanwhile, Russia is demanding that Ukraine withdraw from parts of Donetsk, with proposals for free economic zones still under review. Analysts caution that the recent escalation could complicate the Florida talks and test public trust in any agreements.
