Death Toll Rises to 750 as Severe Floods and Landslides Hit Nepal-Tibet Border

The death toll from severe floods and landslides along the Nepal-China Tibet border has risen to 750, with more than 3,000 people still missing.

Nepal’s disaster management authority reported that 734 people had died in the country as of Sunday, while 2,498 others remained missing.

In Tibet, 16 people have been confirmed dead, with another 546 still unaccounted for. Combined, the two regions have reported 750 deaths and 3,044 missing people.

Rescue operations continued for a fifth consecutive day following Wednesday’s devastating floods. However, heavy mud, landslides and damaged transportation infrastructure have hampered rescue efforts.

Authorities have also warned of the possibility of further flooding. Residents in affected areas have been urged to remain alert as water levels in Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River continue to rise.

Officials fear that worsening weather and river conditions could trigger additional flooding and landslides in the affected areas.
