Iran has denied allegations that it launched a missile toward Turkey. The country’s General Staff of the Armed Forces rejected the claim in an official statement.
According to media reports, a missile was fired toward Turkey on Wednesday, which was intercepted by NATO defense forces as it entered Turkish airspace.
In its statement, the Iranian military said, “The Armed Forces of Iran respect the sovereignty of neighboring and friendly country Turkey, and no missile has been launched toward its territory.”
Turkey’s Ministry of Defense said the missile flew over Iraq and Syria before approaching Turkish airspace, where it was intercepted. No casualties were reported.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Turkey is consulting with its NATO allies and “taking all necessary precautions,” while also issuing a clear warning to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
