Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Israeli media has claimed that the naval chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Alireza Tangsiri, has been killed.
According to a report by Al Arabiya on Thursday (March 25), Tangsiri was “neutralized” in an attack in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas. An Israeli official alleged that he played a key role in Iran’s decision to potentially close the Strait of Hormuz.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Iran or Israel’s military regarding the incident so far.
Earlier, tensions between the two sides escalated following a joint strike by the United States and Israel on February 28. In response, Iran launched drone and missile attacks, which have gradually impacted other countries in the Gulf region.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy routes, remains under Iran’s control. Nearly 20 percent of global oil passes through this waterway, making its security and control crucial for the global energy market and economy.
