Concerns are growing in the global market as oil and gas prices continue to rise following recent attacks on energy facilities in the Gulf region of the Middle East. In response, several European countries along with Japan have announced a joint initiative.
On Thursday, leaders from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan said in a joint statement that they are ready to take necessary steps to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. However, they did not specify what measures would be taken.
The statement also emphasized the urgent need for a complete halt to attacks on civilian infrastructure, especially oil and gas facilities.
Meanwhile, to control rising energy prices, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has decided to increase supply from member countries’ strategic oil reserves in a coordinated move. This is being described as one of the largest actions in the agency’s history.
The joint statement further noted that efforts will be made to stabilize the energy market by working with producing countries to increase oil and gas output.
According to analysts, ongoing tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran have created significant risks to global energy supply, prompting this international response.
