The United States Navy has said it is currently unable to provide security for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping operators are requesting security assistance from the U.S. Navy almost every day, but the navy says it cannot offer protection at this time due to the high risk of a possible Iranian attack.
The information was reported by Reuters on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to the report, although U.S. President Donald Trump said that ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz would be provided with protection, the U.S. Navy has indicated otherwise.
Three sources involved in maritime operations told Reuters that they contacted the U.S. Navy regarding security support. However, the navy informed them that it is not possible to provide protection at the moment because of the elevated threat of attacks. Security support may be provided once the situation stabilizes and the risk of attacks decreases.
