The government of the United Arab Emirates has announced relief measures for expatriates and tourists stranded in the country due to the unstable situation in the Middle East. Because of the recent tensions surrounding the Iran conflict, many people could not leave the UAE on time or had their visas expire. Authorities have now granted a special 30-day extension along with a waiver of fines.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) confirmed that tourists and expatriates who unintentionally overstayed will not have to pay any penalties.

Officials said that the ongoing tensions in the Middle East disrupted flight operations, leaving many expatriates in difficulty. Those whose residency visas expired during this period will be allowed special permission to re-enter the country. At the same time, visitors who entered the UAE on visit or tourist visas and became stranded will receive an additional 30-day grace period.

To help stranded foreign nationals travel smoothly, authorities have also decided to issue free exit permits, allowing them to leave the country without complications once flights resume. In addition, if any international flight is forced to land in the UAE due to disruptions in regional airspace, passengers will be given a temporary landing permit free of charge.

Authorities clarified that failing to apply for visa extensions or exit permits on time during this exceptional situation will not be considered a violation of immigration laws.

This facility mainly applies to individuals who stayed longer than permitted due to the circumstances. It includes holders of departure permits, visit and tourist visa holders, and those whose residency permits were recently cancelled.

Passengers have been advised to keep a valid passport, a copy of their current visa and proof of onward travel ready when applying. Expatriates living in different cities across the UAE, including Dubai, have welcomed the decision. However, travelers are advised to stay in contact with their airlines and confirm the latest travel guidelines as the situation may change.
