Turkey has claimed that it intercepted a ballistic missile that entered its airspace. Following the incident, Ankara warned that it would take firm and decisive action against any threat to its national security.

According to a report by Al Jazeera on Monday (March 9), the Turkish Ministry of Defense said the missile was fired from Iran.

In a statement, the ministry said Turkey would take all necessary measures if its territory or airspace faced any threat. It added that such actions would be taken firmly and without hesitation.

The statement also said Turkey always values good relations with neighboring countries and regional stability. However, any threat to the country’s sovereignty and security will not be tolerated.

Earlier, Turkish authorities claimed that the ballistic missile was launched from Iran and was heading toward Turkey after crossing the airspace of Iraq and Syria.

Later, air and missile defense systems of NATO deployed in the eastern Mediterranean intercepted and destroyed the missile in the air.

After being destroyed, some debris from the missile reportedly fell in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep. However, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Turkish officials said the country’s armed forces remain on the highest level of alert to ensure the security of its airspace and citizens. They also warned that Turkey reserves the right to respond to any hostile act against the country.
