The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said it has disrupted a coordinated plot targeting a high-profile UFC event held on the White House South Lawn, detaining five individuals in connection with the alleged conspiracy.

The event, officially titled “UFC Freedom 250”, took place on Sunday as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. President Donald Trump attended the event, which concluded without any incident.

According to court filings cited by U.S. authorities, the suspects allegedly planned to use explosive-laden drones to strike the northern side of the White House. The purported plan also included triggering chaos among attendees and targeting fleeing officials and political figures.

The FBI said it became aware of the threat earlier in June and worked with law enforcement partners to prevent what it described as a potentially coordinated attack involving individuals outside the Washington, D.C. region.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated in a post on X that investigators identified a “potential threat” linked to individuals planning disruptive actions during the UFC event. He added that rapid coordination between agencies helped neutralize the situation before any violence occurred.

Authorities confirmed that five people have been taken into custody, with at least three facing charges related to conspiracy to commit murder, along with weapons-related offenses and conspiracy against the United States.

Officials also indicated that the broader network under investigation may involve more individuals, with reports suggesting up to two dozen people were connected to the suspected group.

Investigators said the alleged plot was uncovered after a tip from the mother of a 19-year-old suspect in Ohio, who reportedly alerted local police after noticing suspicious online activity and weapons purchases by her son.

The suspect later allegedly admitted awareness of coordination efforts linked to the planned attack.

Vice President J.D. Vance described the case as a “coordinated and organized terrorist conspiracy,” arguing that such operations require structured networks and financing rather than isolated individuals.

Former President Trump, who was present at the event, said while attending a G7-related engagement in France that he had not been aware of any threat.

Authorities continue to investigate the broader network, while legal proceedings against those detained are expected to move forward in federal court.
