Yemen’s Houthi rebel group has claimed responsibility for a missile attack targeting Israel’s main international airport, Ben Gurion Airport.

The information was reported by Al Jazeera on Sunday (April 5).

In a statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group carried out the attack using drones and cluster missiles. He also mentioned that advanced drone technology and cluster munitions were used in the operation.

Meanwhile, Israel’s Fire and Rescue Service reported a separate “hazardous material” incident at the airport around the same time. According to local media, an alert was issued after smoke was seen coming from a suspicious package.

Following the incident, airport staff were evacuated to a safe location. A specialized team arrived at the scene and began assessing the situation. Authorities are working to identify the substance and safely remove it.

In a separate development, U.S. special forces launched a rescue mission to recover a pilot from a downed American warplane in Iran, according to another Al Jazeera report on Sunday.

The report said multiple attacks occurred in the Dehdasht area of Kohgiluyeh province, where a U.S. warplane had been shot down two days earlier. The clashes took place amid the ongoing rescue operation.

Initial reports indicate that at least four people were killed and one injured. However, unofficial sources suggest the death toll could be higher. Reports of clashes in some areas have not yet been independently confirmed.
