Iran has said that the 60-day timeframe mentioned in an understanding reached with the United States is no longer applicable. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei also accused Washington of violating the agreement just weeks after it was signed.

Baghaei said there was no specific condition referring to a “60-day deadline” in the memorandum of understanding reached between Tehran and Washington on June 17. He added that Iran does not formulate its policies based on pressure, threats or deadlines.

He further said the understanding had envisaged a 60-day period for discussions on lifting sanctions and Iran’s nuclear program. The timeframe could also have been extended, if necessary, until an agreement was reached.

However, Baghaei claimed that the United States had violated the understanding extensively, preventing the negotiations from even beginning. As a result, he said, the 60-day timeframe no longer has any significance.
