Amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, a significant diplomatic development is unfolding as Lebanon and Israel are set to hold direct talks for the first time. The meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.
The initiative has been taken under the leadership of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, with the aim of reducing escalating tensions between the two sides.
According to sources, the primary focus of the talks will be to secure a ceasefire and establish a framework for sustained direct dialogue between the two countries.
In a notable development, the Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors in Washington have already held a phone conversation, marking the first official communication between the two sides.
The United States is acting as a mediator in the process, with both parties reportedly agreeing in principle to pursue a ceasefire and continue diplomatic engagement.
Analysts say that if successful, this meeting could play a key role in easing long-standing hostilities and potentially opening a new chapter in Lebanon–Israel relations.
