US Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari has strongly condemned the reported bombing at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, describing the incident as deeply troubling.

In a post on social media platform X, the Iranian-born Democrat said Sharif University is widely regarded as the “MIT of Iran,” highlighting its reputation for producing highly skilled engineers and researchers. She noted that many of its graduates have gone on to build successful careers in Silicon Valley, contributing to leading technology companies in the United States.

“Why are we targeting a university in a city of nearly 10 million people?” she wrote, raising concerns over the nature of the attack.

Earlier, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that the university was struck in what it described as a joint US-Israeli attack. According to the report, part of a mosque inside the campus was damaged in the strike.

Sharif University of Technology is widely recognized for its contributions to scientific research and innovation and is often compared to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In recent years, several academics affiliated with the university have reportedly been killed amid allegations of links to Iran’s nuclear program.

The incident has drawn attention amid ongoing regional tensions, with renewed concern over attacks on civilian and academic institutions.
