The Gazipur Society of USA Inc. brought together members of the Bangladeshi-American community for its annual picnic and reunion, held on June 28 at Heckscher State Park on Long Island.

The daylong event attracted a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis from Gazipur and other districts, offering an opportunity for community members to reconnect while celebrating their shared cultural heritage.

The gathering was attended by the society’s Chief Adviser and freedom fighter Tamiz Uddin Ahmed as the chief guest. Special guests included Asha Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Engineer Akash Rahman, Asha Rahman, and attorney Moin Chowdhury.

The picnic committee was led by Society President Momen Sarkar and General Secretary S. Anwar Ibne Ali, with Chand Mia serving as convener and Md. Asaduzzaman (Bhuiyan Shahin) as member secretary. The program was hosted by Md. Zahirul Haque.

The event was sponsored by Asha Group, with additional support from community leaders and local sponsors.

Addressing the gathering, President Momen Sarkar thanked attendees and volunteers for making the event successful, expressing hope that future editions would be organized on an even larger scale with greater community participation.

Chief guest Tamiz Uddin Ahmed encouraged Bangladeshi expatriates to preserve the country’s cultural traditions, heritage, and values while living abroad. Engineer Akash Rahman said members of the Gazipur community would continue supporting Bangladeshis in need through various charitable initiatives, including projects carried out by the Asha Foundation.

The family-friendly celebration featured cultural performances, children’s activities, sports competitions, prize distribution, and a raffle draw. Musical performances were presented by New York-based Bangladeshi artists, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Organizers said the annual gathering helps strengthen unity and friendship among Bangladeshi Americans while promoting Bangladesh’s history, culture, and traditions to younger generations growing up in the United States. They also expressed their commitment to continuing similar community events in the future.
