Six people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in a shooting in Michigan, United States. Another person was seriously injured in the incident, according to the Michigan State Police, as reported by The New York Times.

Police said they received reports of gunfire at a house on South Lutchance Road in Lake Township at around 11:40 a.m. local time on Friday. Officers arriving at the scene found three people dead and another person seriously injured. The injured victim was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 39-year-old Chad Hickman. He had fled the scene before police arrived. Michigan State Police then launched a large-scale search involving emergency response teams, an aviation unit and trained K-9 teams.

During the investigation, police discovered another body at a nearby residence. Around the same time, officers found Hickman’s vehicle in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake in Caldwell Township. Hickman and another person were later found dead in the area.

Michigan State Police spokesperson Lieutenant Ashley Miller said there is no longer any threat to the public. However, police patrols will continue in the area until investigations at the multiple crime scenes are completed.

Miller described the incident as deeply distressing for investigators, police officers and local residents. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine the motive.

Police have asked local residents to avoid the three crime scenes while the investigation remains ongoing. The exact motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined.
