New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has unveiled his Inaugural Committee ahead of a public swearing-in block party scheduled for January 1. The committee features a diverse group of prominent figures, including educator and YouTuber Ms. Rachel, actress and activist Cynthia Nixon, novelists Colson Whitehead and Min Jin Lee, and several campaign field leads. The committee has helped shape the inaugural event and will join Mamdani as hosts of the celebration.
In a statement, Mamdani said he is honored to work alongside “some of the most creative and experienced minds in the city” to build an inauguration “truly by and for New Yorkers.” Earlier this week, his transition team announced that he will be sworn in by New York Attorney General Letitia James and Senator Bernie Sanders.
The 2026 Inauguration Block Party is free and open to the public, but space is limited and attendees must RSVP online. The committee includes leaders from community organizations, artists, educators, and business figures, reflecting the city’s diversity and the Mayor-elect’s vision for an inclusive event.
