Two sisters in the US state of Texas have given birth to two sets of twin boys just 13 hours apart in a rare family coincidence that has surprised doctors and delighted their relatives.
Rainie Jones and Darian Lowe, from Longview, Texas, discovered they were pregnant at around the same time. They later learned that both were expecting twins.
On March 19, Darian Lowe gave birth to identical twin boys, Wilder and Walker.
Just 13 hours later, in the early hours of March 20, Rainie Jones delivered fraternal twin boys, Ben and Rowan, despite having an expected due date of June 1. She went into premature labour after returning home from the hospital, where she had been visiting her sister and newborn nephews. Following unexpected complications, she was rushed to hospital and gave birth ahead of schedule.
After delivery, two of the four babies spent several days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). By May 26, all four infants had recovered and returned home.
Rainie Jones said she and her sister had hoped their children would be born around the same time, but never imagined the births would occur only 13 hours apart.
The family’s history makes the story even more remarkable. While Rainie and Darian are not twins themselves, they have younger twin siblings, Hadley and Hudson, who are now about 12 years old.
Their mother, Shannon Jackson, said becoming a grandmother to four boys almost simultaneously was an emotional experience. She described it as the fulfilment of her dream of having a large family.
Family members say the arrival of the two sets of twins has brought joy and excitement to the household, while the sisters believe sharing motherhood at the same time has strengthened their bond even further.
