U.S. intelligence agencies are concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could take actions that may undermine President Donald Trump’s efforts to preserve a recent peace understanding with Iran.

According to a report by The Washington Post, Netanyahu is determined to continue military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon while also facing growing political pressure ahead of upcoming elections in Israel.

The report said Netanyahu believes that withdrawing troops from Lebanon or scaling back operations against Hezbollah could weaken his political standing at home. As a result, he is expected to maintain a hardline security posture.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-Iran agreement brokered under Trump’s initiative has reportedly generated unease within Israel. Israeli officials fear the arrangement could limit their ability to take military or strategic action against Iran and its regional ally Hezbollah.

U.S. intelligence assessments suggest that an expansion of Israeli military operations in Lebanon could place the U.S.-Iran understanding at risk. Such a scenario could also strain relations between Trump and Netanyahu.

On June 12, Netanyahu stated that Israel was not a party to the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran.

Trump, for his part, has urged Netanyahu to exercise restraint in Lebanon, arguing that the conflict has dragged on for too long and that civilian casualties have risen to alarming levels.

Against the backdrop of continued regional tensions, differences between Washington and Tel Aviv over the future course of the conflict could emerge as a significant diplomatic challenge in the months ahead.
