Iraq recorded a total of 36 earthquakes in April, with most of the seismic activity concentrated in border areas, according to the country’s meteorological and seismic authority.
The data, reported by Shafaq News, show that 16 earthquakes occurred within the country, while 20 were detected in surrounding border regions. Of those, 10 were recorded near Iran, nine near Turkey, and one in the Hasakah region of Syria.
Within Iraq, Sulaymaniyah Governorate recorded the highest number of tremors, with eight earthquakes reported in urban areas, including Dokan and Penjwen. Additional seismic activity was also recorded in Nineveh Governorate, Dohuk Governorate, Erbil Governorate and Diyala Governorate.
The earthquakes ranged in magnitude from 1.0 to 5.0 and occurred at depths between 5 and 39 kilometers. No casualties or significant damage were reported, authorities said.
